Tilt

Tilt

Pars build it, birdies collect it.

Every hole has a value and it starts at 1. Go on Tilt with a net par or better. A par pays the hole and makes the next one worth 1 more. A birdie pays double the hole and adds 2. Bogeys are painful. They cost you the hole and take you off Tilt until you earn another par. Played on net scores, any number of players, alongside anything else.

Simulator Simulated round

Learn how to play hole by hole with this built in simulator.

This is a simulated round, not a live game. Four made up players, eighteen made up holes, so you can watch exactly how Tilt is scored before you ever tee it up.

Four players, eighteen holes, net scores.

What is Tilt in golf?

Tilt is a points game played on your net score against par. Every hole is worth a number of points and that number climbs while you play well. A net par pays the hole and lifts the next one by 1. A net birdie pays double the hole and lifts the next one by 2. A net eagle pays four times the hole and lifts it by 3. A bogey or worse costs you the hole and knocks you back down. Big Fairways carries the value for every player, so nobody has to remember what the hole is worth on the tee.

How do you play Tilt?

Why golfers love it

Tilt turns a steady round into a snowball. Six pars in a row and the seventh hole is worth 7, and a birdie there pays 14. It also means a bogey late in the day, when your hole is worth 15, hurts more than any bogey has ever hurt. Everybody in the group knows exactly what everybody else is playing for, and the last three holes are loud.

How Big Fairways runs it for you

Pick Tilt when you set up the round, choose who is in, and start playing. The app prompts you at each step, keeps the running points, and lets you run other side games at the same time without the totals getting tangled. At the end you get one clean total per player and the shortest possible list of payments.

Send one link and your group follows the leaderboard live from their own phones, whether they are in your cart or watching from the clubhouse. Every round you post is saved to your own lifetime scorecard, which only you can see.

Common questions

What does Tilt mean in golf?

Being on Tilt means you are playing for a hole that is worth more than it started at. You get there with a net par or better, and every par or birdie after that makes the next hole worth more.

What happens when you bogey in Tilt?

A net bogey or worse costs you the value of that hole and takes you off Tilt. Your next hole drops back to 2 points, or to 1 if you have not made a net par yet in the round.

Is Tilt played on gross or net scores?

Net. Big Fairways applies each player’s handicap strokes on the stroke index holes and works out the net score for you, so a 15 handicap can go on Tilt just as easily as a scratch player.

How many points is a normal round of Tilt?

It depends entirely on how many pars you string together. Eighteen straight net pars would come to 171 points because the hole value climbs by 1 every time. Most rounds land well below that, with one or two big holes deciding it.

Do you have to play for money?

No. Big Fairways counts points. What your group decides to do with those points afterwards is entirely up to the group, and the app never handles anyone's money.

Is Big Fairways free?

Yes, free while we build it. Every side game, the live leaderboard, the settle up totals and your lifetime scorecards are all included, and there is nothing to install because it runs in any phone browser.
