What we collect, and what we don't

No lawyers were harmed writing this. If something here is unclear, tell us and we will fix the wording.

If you only read one thing

Your email address, cell number and zip code are visible to you and nobody else. Not the guy who kept the card, not your playing partners, not anyone opening a shared scorecard link. Everyone else only ever sees your name and your handicap.

What we ask for when you sign up

Your name. So your partners know whose scores they are looking at. This one is public inside the app.
Your email. To sign you in and reset your password if you forget it.
Your cell number. So we can reach you about your account. We only send you marketing texts if you ticked the box asking for them at signup, and you can stop them any time by replying STOP.
Your zip code. To work out roughly where people are playing, and to help match you to courses near you later on.

All four sit in a part of the database that only your own login can open. That is enforced by the database itself, not by our good intentions.

What we keep while you play

Your scores, and the fairways, greens and putts you tap in.
Which courses and tees you played.
Who you played with, so they are one tap next time.
A handicap index worked out from your rounds.

Shared scorecards

When you share a round, anyone with that link can see the card: names, scores and the side game results. That is the point of it. The link cannot reach any email address, phone number or zip code, because the part of our system a share link talks to has no way to ask for them.

You can switch a share link off at any time. Ask us and we will kill it.

Cookies and Google Analytics

We use Google Analytics to see which parts of Big Fairways people actually use, so we know what to build next. It sets a cookie, so we ask first. If you say no thanks, nothing loads and no cookie is set. You can change your mind whenever you like:

What we send Google is deliberately thin: which kind of page was opened, which buttons were pressed, and roughly where in the world the request came from. We never send your name, your email, your phone number, your zip, your scores, or the secret part of a shared scorecard link. Advertising features and ad personalisation are switched off.

What we never do

Sell or rent your information to anybody.
Put your email or phone number in front of another golfer.
Show you ads, or let anybody pay to reach you here.
Send you marketing email or texts you did not ask for.

What we send you

Account and round messages come either way: sign-in links, password resets, security notices, and word that a round you are in has been scored or settled. That is the app working, not marketing, and it stops when you close your account.

Big Fairways news and offers only come if you ticked that box when you signed up. Every one has an unsubscribe link at the bottom.

Texts only come if you ticked the separate text box. Reply STOP to any of them and they stop. Message and data rates may apply. Agreeing to texts is never a condition of using Big Fairways.

We keep a record of every box you ticked and every time you changed your mind, with the date.

Getting your data out, or deleting it

Use the contact form, pick My data or my account, and write from the email address on your account. Ask for a copy of everything we hold, or ask us to delete the account. Deleting removes your profile, your contact details and your rounds. Scores you posted inside somebody else's group round stay on that card under your name, because it is their card too.

If you are in California, the CCPA gives you these rights explicitly, and asking costs you nothing. If you are in the EU or UK, the GDPR does the same.

Who runs this

Big Fairways is run by Todak & Associates, LLC, a small golf outfit in Auburn, Washington. The site is hosted on Netlify and the database is Supabase. Both hold data on our behalf and neither is allowed to use it for anything else.
